Other information: Rescue 2 arrived on scene with the Battle Creek Police Department and LifeCare Ambulance to find a gasoline delivery truck involved in a motor vehicle crash. This resulted in the delivery hose and valve being damaged and actively leaking fuel from the delivery truck. The delivery truck was in the process of refilling tanks at the C-Store on North Ave when a vehicle struck the truck. No one was injured.
Rescue 2 immediately hit the emergency shut-off and called for a hazmat response, as the water and fuel mixture was running into storm drains. Rescue 2 created dams and diverted as much product as possible from entering the drain. Once other units arrived, Rescue 2 deployed oil booms and absorbent pads to slow the spread of the product. Once the spread was contained, Rescue 2 started working on cleanup and investigation.
Transport company representatives were notified and they contacted an environmental clean-up company. Representatives from the City of Battle Creek Department of Public Works were also notified. Nearby drainage discharge points were checked and no sign of fuel was present. Up to 250 gallons of gasoline was believed discharged due to the crash.
