BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - U.S. and State of Michigan flags are at half-staff as of yesterday, Tuesday, Nov. 4, in accordance with federal law and by order of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, to honor and remember former Vice President Dick Cheney, following his death Monday, Nov. 3.
"Former Vice President Cheney was a dedicated public servant. From interning in Congress to serving as the Vice President of the United States, Dick Cheney spent his life working for the American people. He was also a loving father, grandfather, and husband. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.” -Gov. Whitmer
To lower flags to half-staff, flags should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The process is reversed before the flag is lowered for the day.
Flags should be returned to full staff after internment of former Vice President Cheney.
