BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a call for a possible apartment fire at the Arbors of Battle Creek shortly before noon today, Monday, Oct. 6.
The BCFD's Rescue 6 arrived at 400 Oakbrook Blvd., within three minutes, to find smoke showing from a third-floor apartment, and quickly extended a hoseline for fire attack and search. Car 3 arrived to assume command. Engine 4 and Truck 1 arrived to assist with fire attack and search. Engine 3 established water supply and ventilation. Rescue 2 assisted with ventilation and overhaul. The fire was brought under control and the search was completed within 10 minutes.
Due to the quick actions of the fire crews, the fire was contained to the single apartment, saving the remainder of the building. All occupants of the apartment were able to make it out of the building and were assessed by LifeCare Ambulance on scene. There were no injuries reported.
The fire is believed to be an accidental fire started by a juvenile. The BCFD Fire Marshal and Fire Inspector are investigating.
