BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The City of Battle Creek is updating its master plan to include a comprehensive housing strategy, and community input is essential to shaping its direction. As Battle Creek addresses housing challenges and prepares for future economic growth, residents and stakeholders are invited to participate in upcoming housing stakeholder meetings.
These interactive, 90-minute roundtables will feature hands-on mapping exercises and prioritization activities. Discussions will focus on two key areas:
- What it takes to make housing development feasible in Battle Creek today
- How the city can best support housing for all residents
Why housing, and why participate?
Housing is the foundation of community well-being and economic vitality. Battle Creek must balance the needs of young professionals, long-term residents and diverse populations. This master plan update presents a vital opportunity for community members to shape the future of housing in the city.
Participants will help address questions such as:
- What types of housing fit your neighborhood’s character?
- What infrastructure improvements are needed?
- How can we prevent displacement due to rising housing costs?
- What workforce housing is needed to support economic competitiveness?
- What regulatory barriers exist, and how can we overcome them?
Your input will directly influence policies including zoning updates and development incentives. Light refreshments will be provided.
