[ARCHIVED] Firefighters contain attic fire on Upton Avenue

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Firefighters responded early Sunday to a fire in the attic of a home on Upton Avenue.

The Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance were dispatched shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28 after reports of light smoke coming from the roofline.

Rescue 2 arrived within two minutes and found fire in the attic. Crews from Rescue 2 and Engine 1 stretched a hose line to extinguish the flames. Engine 4 secured utilities and confirmed all residents had evacuated. Engine 3, Engine 5 and Rescue 6 assisted with support operations.

The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes and contained to the attic. No injuries were reported.

The fire appeared to be caused by old electrical wiring. The attic sustained fire damage, and water damage affected the first and second floors.
