Meet Steven Skowron! After graduating from Gull Lake High School, Steven went on to earn his associate's degree in applied science and diesel technology from the University of Northwestern Ohio. Today, Steven performs wastewater utility repair for the City of Battle Creek.

What are your primary duties?

I’m responsible for maintaining the wastewater and water plants.

What’s the best part of your job?

The people I work with at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

What’s a recent project that gave you a great sense of accomplishment?

Making compost by taking solid waste and turning it into a usable product.

What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not working?

I like to do fabrication on my jeep and go off-roading.

Can you share a story where you saw firsthand the positive effects of your work on the community or the environment?

At the WWTP, we produce compost from solid waste. I enjoy sharing information about our compost and the process behind it. Many people use our compost and appreciate that it provides a beneficial reuse of waste.
